Come join members of Aum Ha Oasis as we look at the historical sites at Bohemian National Cemetery on Halloween.
Established in 1877, Bohemian National Cemetery in the North Park neighborhood of Chicago is a 126-acre "Garden of the Dead". Originally founded to guarantee dignified burial rights for Czech immigrants free of religious restrictions, it serves as the resting place for nearly 120,000 individuals and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It is famous for it’s peaceful settings and beauty. Among the things we will be looking at.
"Cubs Fans Forever" Wall - A highly unusual 24-foot-high Chicago Cubs-themed columbarium built in 2009. It replicates Wrigley Field's iconic ivy-covered red brick wall, features actual stadium seats and sod, and has a scoreboard permanently set to a Cubs victory.
The SS Eastland Disaster (1915): On July 24, 1915, the excursion steamer SS Eastland rolled over while tied to a dock in the Chicago River, killing 844 passengers—many of whom were working-class Czech immigrants on a company picnic. Section 16 of the cemetery houses the largest number of Eastland victims anywhere, with 143 individuals laid to rest side-by-side.
Please note that there are no documented or historical links to the occult at Bohemian National Cemetery or known hauntings. Its founding principles were deeply rooted in secularism, free-thinking, and community mutual aid rather than mysticism, secret societies, or esoteric rituals. We will discuss seasonal topics like Halloween, Samhain and the Veil while walking.
We will walk through the cemetery with respect for the people there, living and dead. Please meet at 1 pm at the Gatehouse at 5255 North Pulaski Road, Chicago, Illinois
